On August 6, 1945, he was about to leave the city of Hiroshima, where he had been working, when the first bomb exploded, killing 140,000 people. Injured and reeling from the horrors around him, he fled to his home — Nagasaki, 180 miles to the west. There, on August 9, the second atomic bomb exploded over his head.
Tsutomu Yamaguchi, only official survivor of both atomic bombs, dies aged 93.  his nickname was “lucky”. (via darrenf)

My friend and ex-colleague Kerin has to face this crap (a truly epic walk to fill up his pre–paid heating/hot water card) with his current flat. Anyone looking for a flat in London should be well advised to avoid the Family Mosaic agency.

The new Mass Effect 2 trailer is fantastic. Very happy I pre-ordered this one, as I loved the first.

This is an incredible story if true. An absolutely mind-blowing piece of journalism.

A truly epic summary of the global warming debate visualised. From Information is beautiful.

Today, I became a British Citizen. Here is me receiving my certificate of naturalisation from the former speaker of Hackney. She gave a great speech to all the new citizens and guests, plus check out those fresh trainers underneath her gown. This is how we roll in Hackney.

I’m very proud of Amanda for becoming a British citizen today. The ceremony itself was actually quite nice—very humble and simple, with a minimum of fuss. I learned that out of the two pledges (one non–religious, one for “Almighty God”), the non–religious is the default so as not to cause any friction with religious citizens–to–be who might not have read the application correctly.

Fantastic article about some of the challenges (and solutions) involved in time management within startups.

The presentation Simon gave at DJUGL. Most interesting for me, specifically with regards to Smarkets, is the logging and CSRF work. Receiving hundreds of emails overnight when the site has issues isn’t fun.
